Element 2 Week 5:

As the arches are a key modular element in the scene I wanted to add some flair and interest to them. I analysed some of the examples seen in my references I felt the first example wasn’t “chunky” or “sturdy” enough it looked sharp and dangerous but not as solid as the later two.

I preferred this second one to the first example but when I found the ones that implemented the skulls in them in the third examples i was instantly drawn to it.

I tried incorporating different appealing elements from each together in my first iterations but found it to be a bit clunky in an unappealing way.

My second iterations I tried to keep thicknesses consistent but came to the conclusion it still looked a bit fragile compared to the imposing brick walls

I decided to stay true to the concept I was initially drawn too with some very subtle differences by adding more points and sharper angles throughout.

Here is how it looks in-situ I feel it turned out well and fits the theme well.

I modelled some arched ceilings as this would be utilised heavily throughout the scene and is one of the key elements used with interior gothic architecture.

These were quite complicated to produce and scale appropriately but worked out eventually which allowed me to create more floor space and start blocking out the corner sections.
