Element 2 Week 1:

To kick things off with the start of E2 I went to Unreal to start planning out my blockout / greyboxing considering my final outcome in E1 I had a good idea of what to produce but I wanted to take some design liberty with some of the architecture.

I wanted to create a sense of claustrophobia / tightness along the side aisle which was inspired by a talk from Nick Stath at Concept101 who was concept artist on the Alien Romulus film.

Nick Stath Concept Art talk at Concept101

I decided I would make some statues that will be dotted around the sides of the aisles so I went to ZBrush to start sculpting some taking a heavy influence from Warhammer 40K characters and statues.

I looked at a variety of different armored characters that would compliment the aesthetic and based on a few of the different designs I produced some armor that would further align with this style.

I felt like it was maybe a bit fragmented and was struggling to see it through so I went back to my references and assessed what could be added/changed and then I came across this design from Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order I felt the way it looks carved out of the architecture and the non-human appearance added an air of mystique which could be interesting so I went back to the drawing board and started blocking out the statue.

I also found this concept which was an interesting and more damaged take with a similarity in terms of it being carved out of the pillar.

I started by blocking it out in Maya.

I then took this to ZBrush to start creating a high-poly version.

Here are the high_poly sculpts of the statue I wanted to bring back that combative and militant style often scene in Warhammer so I decided to produce a sword for the statues to reinforce that idea.

And here is the statue with the sword:

I am happy with how it turned out and felt it was a successful model so I retopologised it in Maya and got my low_poly.

Here are some example textures with the baked high to low poly there is an excessive amount of edge-wear but I will be changing these textures appropriately.
